15 Sessions
Students learn to understand and interpret fishing gear designs and the symbols used in them.
Use of fishing gear designs and designs in CadTrawl.
Material supplied by the instructor on paper and in electronic format.
Students gains familiarity with the materials available on the market and how to select the most suitable materials for each type of fishing gear so that their strength and endurance will be as good as possible.
Students are instructed in the ideas behind regulations on minimum mesh sizes and the methods of measuring meshes, both for practical and for legal purposes. .
Study of tables and handbooks that netting and equipment manufacturers supply, plus practical examination of samples of fishing gear materials. Students are given the opportunity to use all of the tools in common use used for measuring mesh sizes.

Students become familiar with the main knots and splices used in fishing gears.
Practical knots and splices, and discussion of the use and suitability of various knots and splices in particular sections of fishing gears.

Students are instructed in the main methods of constructing and maintaining trawl gears.
Students study trawl designs and net lofts, plus instruction in storage and keeping a stock of materials.
Material supplied by the instructor on paper and in electronic format, practical sessions using the flume tank.
The number of hours that each section consists depends on the requirements of each group of students.
